Alice's Party

Last year, both kids had their birthday parties at home, but this year that definitely wasn't an option.  Alice had hers at Bentley Park.

She wanted a jungle theme and we had a lot of people coming, so we did two cakes.

It's a big park and splash pad, so the only real pictures I got were when people sat down to eat.

A big thanks to the Bixby Domino's manager for getting all the pizzas there on time and assuring me the rain would hold off until after the party.  Ha!

I think one of Alice's favorite things was poking holes in the table cloth!

 Present time!

She got a lot of craft kits and supplies--her friends know her well!

She didn't even wait until we got home to start!

Thanks to all our friends who came out and helped up celebrate!

Tulsa GeoScience Center

Today our 4H group went on a tour of the Tulsa GeoScience Center.

They have several tables full of fossils for the kids to look at and touch.

Jack is holding up a raptor claw.

Dinosaur poop!

 They learned about earthquakes.

 They recorded themselves dancing...

...and then got to see the playback of the movements they made!

They also got to make fossils!

Their favorite thing was probably the flourescent room, where they learned about different types of light.

They got to mark on themselves with highlighters.

 They really got into this!

They also learned about rocks and minerals.

When they were finished, they got to dig for fossils and minerals.

They also got to bring home different rocks.

 Jack's box of goodies!

 Eek!  Megalodon jaws!

This was a great field trip!  Both of the guides were very enthusiastic and really kept the kids interested.  I highly recommend it!

Happy Birthday, Jack!

Jack's 12th birthday started off with setting out his new Harry Potter book--which of course, had to be dug out of the storage unit.

He was up around 6:30 to start the day.

He got a Lego birthday set, a Lego Star Wars set, and a TMNT figure.

And to his great surprise, he also got the Star Wars prequels!

He built his Lego cake right away!

After we dropped Alice at sewing camp, we went to a couple of places to look around.  He was the first customer at a comic shop, so they gave him a Superman bobble head.  When we were at a resale shop he played a vintage pachinko game and when it dinged, a man came around the corner and gave him this ship picture as a prize.  This is the kind of thing that normally happens to Jack.

His other surprise was getting to go see The Hobbit in the theater!

He has wanted to try sushi for a while, so we did that for dinner.  He chose California rolls and dumplings, which I guess may not really be sushi, but it's still way closer to sushi than I would get, so I'm giving him credit.  He really liked it!

His official 4:30 picture!

Happy birthday, Jack Henry!  We love you so, so much!

Happy Birthday, Alice June!

It's hard to believe this tiny baby girl turned seven today!

She was up early to open her presents before church.  (Only another month or so and we will not be living in a storage unit anymore!)

One of her main gifts from us was knitting supplies and she is going to learn how to knit starting this week.

She also got some fabric and a new book, which is related to one of her very favorite books, The One and Only Ivan.

She got to pick the Sunday dinner menu at Grandma and Grandpa's, so we had popcorn chicken, mashed potatoes, french fries, and sour cream and onion chips.

Her other big gift was getting her ears pierced, so we went to the Claire's at the mall this afternoon.

 She did a great job!

The traditional 3:31 picture!  We had just gotten home from the mall and the grocery store.

Happy, happy birthday, sweet girl!  We love you so, so much!

Happy June!
