Communication Rally

Yesterday Jack and Alice both participated in the county Communication Rally for 4H.

Jack entered the Legacy category, where they have to recite different things about 4H.

He also entered the literature category (shown here), where they read a selection aloud, and the extemporaneous speaking category.

Cloverbuds could enter the Legacy category and do a show and tell.  Alice did hers on dress up clothes.

They enjoyed hanging out with friends while they waited.

Jack won first place in extemporaneous!

Drone Discovery

This week the kids had the opportunity to participate in the Drone Discovery program for 4H National Youth Science Day.

It's hard to see the items on the carpet, but there were different stuffed animals on the floor and the kids had to watch a screen showing what the camera on the drone could see and then try to direct it to the right animal.

I'm not sure what they were filming Jack for, but it didn't seem to distract him!

They had a lot of fun!

Pumpkin Patches

I remember back before Jack was born when a friend was telling me that they were going to go to the pumpkin patch and that they went several times because they loved it so much.  I was totally confused, because what fun was it to go sit in a field of pumpkins?  Clearly I was clueless.  Now we spend our Octobers going to multiple pumpkin patches in the area!

We started at Carmichael's in Bixby.  This one is so picturesque and it's free to go, which is nice, too!

We always love to feed the animals.

And, of course, we have to ride the ponies.

And when you get too tall for the ponies, you can ride a camel!

We visited Pumpkinville in Oklahoma City over fall break.

It's not a pumpkin patch, but we also went to the Spook-a-rama at the Kiddie Park in Bartlesville.

 There's Pumpkin Town, too!

We always have to take a picture with the playhouse!

Pumpkin Town does charge admission, but almost everything there is free, including face painting!

We wrapped up the month with a trip to Shepherd's Cross in Claremore.

It was so crazy hot that it didn't even seem like going to the pumpkin patch and I took about three pictures there.  It was pretty weird since it's always cold and windy when we go!

We can't wait to visit them all again next year!

Happy Halloween!

I have several other Halloween posts I need to work on, but since today is Halloween, here is what we did today!  There was a party at my grandma's apartment, so we went there for a while in the afternoon.

We tried to get Hobo to dress up, but he just wanted to eat the hat.

 Boris was slightly more cooperative.

 Alice was a pop star!

 Jack was a scarecrow!

We had a little neighborhood cookout this evening.

 It was beautiful--but warm!

We spent about an hour and a half trick or treating.

Alice ended up with 215 pieces.

Jack had 331!

Oklahoma Wildlife Expo

At the end of September (I'm still playing catch up!) we went to the Oklahoma Wildlife Expo at the Lazy-E Arena in Guthrie.

If it has something to do with wildlife, it's probably there!

There were all kinds of things for the kids to try.

And sand!

Rock climbing

Casting practice

Identifying animal tracks

Alligator!

Alice was very excited to catch her "very first fish in her whole wide life!"

She actually caught several and had a great time doing it!

We wrapped up the (very long) day with dinner at Pops.  It was a great time and we'll definitely go back next year!

Fall Break Fun

This week we took a short trip to Oklahoma City with my mom and dad and my sister and her kids.

The kids stayed up super late (and thankfully were fairly quiet so the adults could sleep) and didn't want to get up the next morning.

They were willing to get up for fancy waffles, though.

We walked the underground tunnels--all of them this time, even the elusive pink one.

They had changes out the art in the art tunnel!

After that, we went to Pumpkinville.

This year it was fairy tale themed--here they are in Rapunzel's tower with her braid.

Trying out chairs with Goldilocks!

We stopped off at Pops on the way home!
