Leah

A little over four years ago Leah (then called Leo) came home with us.

At the old house, she lived in the school room, but when we moved to the rent house, we had her in the living room.

She was always so much fun to watch.

When we moved to the new house, we put her in our breakfast nook.

Because when your leopard gecko is running around like this, you don't want to miss it!

Unfortunately she started to lose weight and about a week ago really started to struggle.  She passed away this week and we buried her today at my mom and dad's farm.  We'll miss her!

The Last Day of School

We survived!  This has been another full year and the kids have accomplished so much.  We're now (almost) ready for lots more fun this summer!

Pet & Critter Show

Last week was our 4H club's annual Pet & Critter Show.  The kids on the committee got together beforehand to plan the show and decide on prizes.

They also got to go shopping for prizes!

 Now Alice wants a bunny!

Jack got to announce the Cloverbuds categories.

Alice brought what we thought were tadpoles, but turned out to be fish.  They're still alive on our porch!

She also had a rabbit for Most Realistic Stuffed Animal and a dragonfly for Most Unusual Stuffed Animal.

 Checking out a skink!

All the Cloverbuds who entered the pet show

For snacks, we brought puppy chow and water bowls--blue jello.

Jack entered his fish in the nature category.

 The skink again!

He entered a hummingbird for Most Realistic Stuffed Animal and won!

He also won for Most Unusual Stuffed Animal with the creature Alice created by sewing two animals together and repositioning their limbs.

It was lots of fun!

Rooster Day

Saturday morning the kids marched in their first Rooster Day parade!

I didn't get a good picture of the whole float, but they walked along with Tractor Supply and handed out 4-H and Tractor Supply goodies.

The boys--with a real live rooster!

 The girls!

 Alice loved her friend's rabbit!

 It was perfect weather!

They did a great job, even if they were getting silly by the end!

After all of that walking, it was time for rides!

That's them almost at the top!

It's a good thing they were strapped in tightly...

...because this one went upside down!

Later Alice told me she thought she was going to lose her glasses!

 They played some games, too.

It was a great day!

Exploring Insects

Thursday we went to Exploring Insects, a program put on by the Tulsa Master Gardeners.

There were lots of fun stations (23, to be exact) where the kids could try out an activity and learn something new.

At this station we learned that the ink in certain pens puts out a smell that the termites will follow, so if you draw a track, they'll follow it all the way around!

 Yes, that's what it says.

 Really.

They crawled around in the paint and made a nice little picture.

At this station the kids had to pretend like they were dung beetles!

There were lots of creepy-crawlies for them to touch!

Not all of the stations were gross, though!

Alice was learning what a butterfly's wings sound like.

 Dancing like bees!

 Cockroach races!

There was a station where you could eat a mealworm.  I was pretty sure Jack would do it since he has done it before.  He popped it right in!

Alice had good intentions but she just couldn't make it happen!

We had a great time!
