Weekend Getaway

Last Friday the kids and I hit the road for a quick trip to Norman. Jack did his best to keep Alice entertained in the car.

Our first stop was the museum. This picture is much more adorable turned the other way, but it's still cute this way. And it's 11:30--very late for me--so please just turn your head.

A museum trip is not complete unless you have your picture taken with Bob.

And, of course, you have to take a ride in the canoe.

Next it was on to the hotel. Alice didn't want me to put her down the entire time we were there, so it was hard to get a good picture of her cute new swimsuit.

Jack loved floating around the pool.

Alice enjoyed the pool much more than she did last time.

Later we met friends at the park for dinner. Alice got to swing in a real swing for the first time. Last summer, Jack was dying to put her in one of these and push her. He couldn't understand why we couldn't do it when he promised he'd push her slow.

This year, though, he was more interested in the dogs we saw.

We also saw another familiar site.

Then it was back to the hotel. My kids have it rough, don't they? In case you can't see the picture well, Jack is in a king sized bed with a bag of Doritos watching a giant TV. How does he get by?

See the grid on the headboard? Alice had a good time trying to climb that. I was fairly sure they would never go to sleep, but a little after 10:00 (which felt like about 2:00 to me), they were both asleep and I was able to get a shower and some sleep, too.

And why were we taking this trip? That's coming in the next post!

Busy Baby

Alice has always been a busy baby. The last several months of my pregnancy it felt like I was housing an acrobat. When I checked into the hospital to be induced, the nurses commented on how active she was. One even said, "Oh, wow! Your baby doesn't sleep at all, does he?" No. And not much has changed since then--though now we know that he is actually a she. Alice is busy all. the. time.

These pie crusts were a hit for days. I didn't mean for them to become toys, but she got them out while I was putting away the groceries and had a blast with them.

Magnets are always good while I'm cooking dinner.

Poor Brother has to watch out for her. He's taken to keeping his door shut when she's upstairs and I can't say I blame him. She is dying to get her hands on his He-Man toys.

And then there are the bibs...

Always with the bibs!

Unless she's in the drawer...

And that, my friends, is why it's hard to get anything done around here!

High Chair Nap

11 Months

We're all a little surprised that Alice is 11 months old already.

She's doing all kinds of big girl things like riding in the cart with Brother...

...and dressing herself. This morning I got out of the shower to find she had donned my bra and underwear.

She loves Mrs. Butterworth.

She also enjoys the sink hole on the island.

And though she can throw a good fit if she doesn't get her way, there are lots and lots of smile and laughs.

Happy 11 Months, Alice!

#429

I've added another item to my "What Can I Do While Holding A Baby?" list: Get my eyebrows waxed. This wasn't the plan. My mom came with me, but Alice cried and acted so pitiful that I ended up holding her. Thankfully she was willing to go with Grandma when it was time for me to get my hair cut!

Jack's First Trophy

Jack had his year-end choir program Sunday evening. He did a great job!

The highlight of the evening for him, though, was getting his first ever trophy--a high attendance award with his name on it. Can you guess what is in our curio cabinet in the front hall now?

My Kitchen, 3:15 in the Afternoon

I decided it was time to make a recipe binder. Right now. What was I thinking?
