Weekly Wrap Up (11/15)

This has been a pretty good week!  (Picture from breakfast Sunday morning at McDonald's.)

The weather was beautiful at the beginning of the week.  Monday it got up to 80!

We spent a lot of time running errands while the weather was nice--groceries, new tires, etc.  (Picture from the tire shop while we waited)

Since it was so warm, we stopped by CherryBerry before dance!

By Tuesday morning it was getting cold!

Wednesday was our trip to the Wondertorium--and lunch at Eskimo Joe's.

During the chilly weather this week we discovered it's much warmer in the shed (where Hobo sleeps), so we have been doing our read aloud out there each morning when we go get him out of the kennel.

Friday was the last day of the little co-op we've been doing with some other families.  At the end of each session they bring something they have made that goes along with a certain theme.  Here Alice is telling about the Christmas tree she made out of felt.  We have had such a good time with this group this semester!

Friday night was Books to Treasure!  This year the author was Philip C. Stead.

Today we've been taking it pretty easy.  Tonight we'll have our Thanksgiving dinner at home and get ready for the cold weather--and maybe even SNOW!--coming our way tomorrow!

Sounds Our Body Makes

Yesterday we put another 188.2 miles on the car for our road trip to Stillwater.

We went to the Wondertorium for their homeschool class called Sounds Our Body Makes.

Of course a class like that is going to cause some funny expressions!

They really did learn quite a bit about the digestive system!  They started with a cracker in their mouths (a plastic baggie) and then chewed by pounding the cracker with a block.

 They added some saliva (water),

and then some acid (vinegar) as the food moved into the stomach.

They put the food into small tubes to represent the small intestine.

Since things dry out in the large intestine, they gave them some water to suck up with the straw to help them remember this step.

They also did a gas experiment!

And of course they had fun playing with the regular exhibits.

They also had some exchange students there and the kids were able to see what their names look like in Japanese.

We had a great time!  If you haven't been to the Wondertorium before, I highly recommend it!

Weekly Wrap Up (11/8)

There's not a lot of variety in the pictures this week because for most of two days, this was my view.  I was sick and stayed on the couch or in bed Wednesday and much of Thursday!

Sunday I took the kids to see Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  It was really funny and really good.

Thursday night we went out to dinner...

...and then to see the musical version of the Grinch.

This morning we left for Oklahoma City.

We spent some time at the science museum.

The kids got to make gak!

Then it was on to a birthday party at a trampoline park--I never even saw the big boys, but Alice enjoyed herself in the kids' area.

Hopefully next week will not be derailed with sickness because we have some fun plans!

Weekly Wrap Up (11/1)

This week was a lot of Halloween!

Monday night we went to Bass Pro and the kids made owls and got their picture taken.

They also tried the shooting gallery.  Let's all hope we don't have to depend on these two to hunt our food.

We've been studying different North American tribes, so we made hominy when we learned about the Seminole--more on this later because it was a (surprisingly) BIG hit!

Wednesday night we put on The Haunted Mansion and carved pumpkins.

 Not sure about this look...

 A cyclops and a witch!

 We also had Halloween cake!

Thursday night our local Chili's had a Halloween family night, so the kids dressed up and we ate out.

Friday morning we went to IHOP for free scary face pancakes!

Then we went out to Shepherd's Cross for their Pumpkin Festival.

It was so windy and cold, but the kids didn't care!

They played out in the hay maze forever!

By the afternoon, the wind died down and it felt pretty nice.  We came home for a bit before trick or treating and I got this cute shot of the kids relaxing while I was walking the dog.

Today we went to a fun event at a local college--more on this later, too!

Happy Halloween!

This year the kids decided to be a vending machine and a candy bag.

We headed out around 6:30 while it was still light.

We didn't stop for a group shot until it was dark, though!

This blurry picture is of the lady who stopped and offered Jack some money for the M&Ms on his costume.  She gave him $2!

We covered the entire neighborhood and then had some cupcakes.

After that we went by Jay's sister's house and trick or treated at a few more houses.  Some teenagers stopped Jack and want to buy some things from his costume.  They gave him $5 for two packs of gum!

The final haul: 215 pieces--more than his bucket would hold, but he thought ahead and brought a pillowcase for extras.

Alice ended up with 163 pieces!

They're already planning what they'll be next year!
