Vet School Open House

Saturday we went to the Vet School open house at OSU.  There are only 30 vet schools in the country, so it's a neat opportunity to have one so close!

They had a K9 demonstration by the Stillwater Police.

We also watched presentations on clicker training and agility.

Inside there were lots of fun things for the kids to see and do!

A painted horse!

Here they had to feel around to see if they could figure out what each animal had swallowed.

This was a really interesting station where you could see a scene as you saw it and then as different animals would see it.

Alice's favorite was the teddy bear surgery.  Each kid could pick a stuffed animal and decide what was wrong with it.  Here she's helping give her rabbit anesthesia.

All ready for surgery!

She was doing stomach surgery because her rabbit had eaten some Starbursts.

Then they stitched them back up and the kids got to take the animals home!

Checking out a pregnant cow...parts...I'm not really sure what all parts were included there.  Alice couldn't eat her hot dog after this because she kept thinking of it!

They do this each year, so we'll definitely go again!

The Golden Ticket

Friday night we went to see friends in the play of Willy Wonka.  At the concession table they were selling Wonka Bars--and five of them had a golden ticket!

We bought a couple of bars for each kid and none of them had a golden ticket.  Jack talked me in to buying one more from the candy cart.

And it had a golden ticket!

 They were all pretty excited!

Their prize!  It was a great part of a great evening!

Medieval Fair

Friday morning we made a quick trip to Norman for the Medieval Fair!

As always, the first stop was the trampolines!

And we always have to see the animals, too!

We spotted a leopard gecko like Leah, too!

We did manage to see some actual medieval things, too!

Kites

This week at 4H the kids made kites!

It was a little crowded in the smaller field...

...so the kids went to the big field to spread out.

I love that the kids have this space to play!

The kites were beautiful against the sunset!

Last night the little sisters got to fly their kites while the bigger kids sewed.

It was perfect weather for it!

The Photographer

Back in September the kids both won a photo contest at the Linnaeus Teaching Gardens.  The winning photos were framed and are hanging in the barn there until the next contest--so then we get the nice framed photos back!  A few weeks ago I got an email from the teen coordinator asking me if Jack would be willing to sell a signed copy of his picture to a volunteer.  Of course, his answer was yes!  Last week we met with her to get her the copy and she brought a the fish she had at home that she's going to display by the picture.  It's fun to see all the neat things that have come from the kids entering the contest!

Spring Break

We started Spring Break by celebrating my mom's birthday!

Monday we went to 4H and the kids finished up a pottery class--this is a picture their teacher sent me.

Coffee out of her own mug!

Tuesday we went to a show at the planetarium.

And then we went to Red Robin and celebrated Pi Day!

Wednesday the kids went to a sewing class (and I just realized I haven't taken any pictures of what they made!) and Leah worked on getting rid of her old skin.  I always get a kick out of this, especially when she looks like she's wearing gloves.

Thursday we had rainbow pancakes and went to PE as usual.

Friday started with more sewing at 4H (it's Fashion Revue time)!

Then we went to lunch and bowling with friends!

We had our traditional rainbow jello for St. Patrick's Day.

The weather was so nice we went to the park after supper.

Saturday morning the kids worked at 4H fundraiser at Tractor Supply.  It ended up being really warm--even though we were freezing at the beginning of the week!

 We went swimming, too!

We were pretty busy, so I'm not sure how much of a break I'd consider it, but we had a good time!

Science Museum Sleepover

A couple of weeks ago we did another sleepover at the science museum.  It wasn't the 4H one we did last year, because that one fell on the same night as Share the Fun.

They opened CurioCity up at the beginning for everyone.

Then it was time to head to the auditorium.  See all those empty seats?  We found that going to one of the public sleepovers is much more low key than the group ones.  It was nice!

There was a Science Live show.

And then it was time to set up the mystery we were going to be solving!

There were different stations to learn about things like blood typing...

 ...and DNA...

 ...and fingerprinting.

They also got to interview the different suspects.

At the end of the evening we all met back in the theater and they revealed the identity of the thief.  We had the right suspect!

We slept in the same area we did the year before. It was nice and quiet!

We had a great time!
