Zoo Camp Week

Last Sunday night we hit the road for Oklahoma City for a week at zoo camp.

Jack's camp was Zootastic Careers and Alice's was Vet McStuffins.

We had to be there by 8:00 each morning, which is crazy early for us, but we made it and they had a great time!

They had a great time swimming at the hotel.

They did lots of handstand practice!

 And lots of dramatic jumps!

Monday night we went to Pops for dinner.

Tuesday we went to Andy Alligator's...

 ...and Elevation.

Wednesday we went to the water park at Andy Alligator's.  The kids loved the slides!

 This one was so fast!

Thursday was my birthday, and I got a good shady spot in the pick up line!

We spent some time at the zoo.

Then we went over to the science museum.

Alice loves to play in the rock area.

We all laughed so hard at this!

Birthday selfie!

Friday we headed home after camp was out and Jay surprised me with a birthday dinner!  We had a great time--big thanks to Jay for holding down the fort with all the house stuff and pet duties!

Read Alouds

In May the kids participated in the Read-Aloud Revival 31 Day Challenge.  They both read aloud for at least 15 minutes a day!

Jack mostly read from On the Day I Died, and Alice read a lot of Arnold Lobel books.

They usually read to me, but sometimes they read to other people and even to Hobo!

They didn't win any of the prize drawings, but it was fun anyway!

I read aloud to the kids a lot and this year we're trying to get in 100 read alouds.  Our list so far:

Audio Books

Jay & Jack's Read Alouds

Family Read Alouds
At Home in North Branch (Grandma's Attic Vol. 8)

Halfway through the year we're at 54 books, so hopefully we'll reach our goal!

Sewing Camps

Both of the kids did sewing camps this month!

Alice did a fashion camp and made a skirt, scarf, purse, and several headbands.

At home, she made a baby sling!

Jack went to a Harry Potter camp.

He already had Harry and Ron, so this time he made Ginny, Hermione, and Voldemort.  We also got to see some of the plans for new characters!

Alice also had her first knitting lesson with her new birthday supplies.

She loves to make things!

4H Survivor Camp

Jack participated in our county's 4H Survivor Camp last week.

They had the room all decked out--even with a crashed plane!

The kids were divided into different tribes.  They made shelters...

 ...and flags!

They spent the three days working on different life skills.

At the end of each day, the kids ranked their teammates on different qualities.  Jack got an award for creativity!

He had a great time!

USS Batfish

A couple of weeks ago we took a field trip to the USS Batfish in Muskogee.  We went last September for a MetroFamily article, but this time we took a guided tour, so we learned a lot more!

It was crowded enough with the crazy kids, so I can't imagine what it would be like to be in there with a full crew!

Don't they look tough?

Fishing

Monday night we had a cookout and fishing night with our 4H group.

I was surprised at how willing the kids were to bait their hooks--which was good, because I wasn't going to do it!

This was the only thing either of them reeled in.

Yes, somehow Jack managed to catch Mickey Mouse.

Alice did catch a lot of frogs, though--25, to be exact!

It was a lot of fun, but they were so muddy they had to be hosed down before they came in the house!
