Sewing Camps

Both of the kids did sewing camps this month!

Alice did a fashion camp and made a skirt, scarf, purse, and several headbands.

At home, she made a baby sling!

Jack went to a Harry Potter camp.

He already had Harry and Ron, so this time he made Ginny, Hermione, and Voldemort.  We also got to see some of the plans for new characters!

Alice also had her first knitting lesson with her new birthday supplies.

She loves to make things!

4H Survivor Camp

Jack participated in our county's 4H Survivor Camp last week.

They had the room all decked out--even with a crashed plane!

The kids were divided into different tribes.  They made shelters...

 ...and flags!

They spent the three days working on different life skills.

At the end of each day, the kids ranked their teammates on different qualities.  Jack got an award for creativity!

He had a great time!

USS Batfish

A couple of weeks ago we took a field trip to the USS Batfish in Muskogee.  We went last September for a MetroFamily article, but this time we took a guided tour, so we learned a lot more!

It was crowded enough with the crazy kids, so I can't imagine what it would be like to be in there with a full crew!

Don't they look tough?

Fishing

Monday night we had a cookout and fishing night with our 4H group.

I was surprised at how willing the kids were to bait their hooks--which was good, because I wasn't going to do it!

This was the only thing either of them reeled in.

Yes, somehow Jack managed to catch Mickey Mouse.

Alice did catch a lot of frogs, though--25, to be exact!

It was a lot of fun, but they were so muddy they had to be hosed down before they came in the house!

Gardening

On the last day of school, the kids started a gardening class.  They'll meet once a month over the summer (except for June when we have zoo camp).

Last time they learned about soil.

They even got to eat dirt and worms!

They planted marigolds and some seeds, too.

Almost a month later, Jack's plant looks like it's going to have some new buds soon and his seeds are growing well, too.  He has also brought my hanging basket back from a dry, dusty death and is really enjoying taking care of the plants!

Alice's plant has lots of new buds!

Last week we spent some time in the Rose Garden.

Then it was time for stories at Linnaeus.  Alice got to check out a caterpillar close up!

After the story time was over, they went on a scavenger hunt in the gardens.

Do you see the (almost) frog?

Ribbit!

Jack's Party

Jack chose to have his birthday party at Incredible Pizza.

He wanted a Futurama cake and I wasn't sure how to do that, but Jay came up with the idea of a pizza with anchovies and putting some Futurama Funco Pops with it, which was great, but unfortunately, I totally forgot to bring the Funco Pops.

So it looked like a regular pizza cake, which was fine, but I was aggravated with myself.

They had a jello eating contest...

 ...and Alice came in first!

He loved this funny card his friends made.

 His biggest surprise was...

 ...a mini prize claw!

 Spinning the prize wheel

 The ticket grab!

Jack gets in a trance when he plays this game!

I didn't get a whole group shot, but I did get one of most of them at laser tag.

 Testing out the prize claw!

This was the cake he requested at my mom and dad's.  My mom told the bakery this was what he wanted and came back and they had not written it, so she came back a second time and they still didn't do it.  Finally my dad had to wait there while they put it on.  I guess they're not familiar with middle school humor!

My sister and her family were on vacation recently and got him real Kwik E Mart stuff!

Thanks for everyone who helped up celebrate!
