Artist Study: Renoir

We just finished up our artist study on Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Of course we used our favorite biography!

And we used our other favorites, too.

I just got this book and it's going to get a lot of use!  (Also, I'm having an online Usborne party right now, so if you want to order, let me know!)

Alice is a little old for the Sharing with Renoir book, but we looked through it for the pictures anyway.  I found this Art Around the World in the Time of Renoir book at the library and it was neat to see all the other kinds of art being made at the same time.

I picked this book up a while back at Half Price Books, which is a great place to find good deals on art and artist books!

This Smart About Art book was another HPB find!

We used this project from Art Projects for Kids to draw like Renoir!

We'll wrap up our artist studies for the year with Leonardo da Vinci!

Friday Fun (On a Stick!)

Yesterday was Something on a Stick Day so we had sausages and pancakes on a stick and fruit kabobs for breakfast.

Then we went to see a play of The Snail and the Whale.

Jack found these teeth in my purse.  Of course I had them in my purse.  Pretty much everything ends up in my purse.

After the play we went for our favorite (though not on a stick) lunch downtown and then to the children's museum to play for a bit.

Dinner was on a stick and we watched a movie while we ate.

The kids had a sleepover in the tent in Alice's room.  I'm pretty sure their day ended after mine because I was exhausted and could still hear them laughing!

One Year With Lea

A year ago today Jay and Jack came home with a tiny little leopard gecko.

Over the last twelve months there have been lots of changes--not the least of which was the change from Leo to Lea after a discussion with the pet store worker.

She's much bigger now and she has several different sets of decor for her habitat, because we all know that's important to a leopard gecko.

Tonight we had (gummy) worm cupcakes to celebrate!

Spring Break Fun!

St. Patrick's Day was just the start of our spring break fun!  Tuesday we had waffles for Waffle Day.  (Editing to add that apparently I was a week early and never realized it.  I have been completely off on my calendar this month!)

Then it was off to church for a fun day for Jack and then to Build a Bear for Alice.

Wednesday we had lunch out with friends.

Then we headed to the museum.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon playing with friends.  The weather was perfect!

Alice loved being the big kid!

And Jack loved playing baseball--with every kind of ball except an actual baseball.

Our libraries are having several science classes and Jack built a little robot that will draw!

After being out of the house every single day for the last week and a half, we are finally getting a couple of days at home and I am loving it!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Our traditional St. Patrick's Day breakfast came with a note attached.
I found a printable scavenger hunt (I can't find the specific link right now, but it's from something I pinned) for the kids to do.
One clue had them looking in the fridge.  (Yes, my fridge door looks like that.)
Another one had them looking in shoes.
The third clue was on the door and they not only walked by it multiple times, but they were even both standing there looking out the window and didn't see it!
Once they found it, they realized their prizes were on their beds!
They had a note and candy!
I put in gold chocolate coins, Rolos, and Twix.
Then it was finally time to eat!
Later we went to Bounce U with a friend.

When we did our artist study today we had mint chocolate chip shakes for tea time!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Spring Break Begins!

Well, actually we started yesterday with lunch with friends and roller skating, and really we will not be taking a complete break from school, so I'm not sure that was a good title for this post!  But we spent the first part of the day at my grandma's and then Alice went to a girl sleepover at my mom and dad's so Jack and I went to see The LEGO Movie (for the third time).  We've got stuff going on all week, so I think when it's over, we'll be ready for a real break!

The Toy & Action Figure Museum

Saturday morning we went to The Toy & Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley.

Right away they headed to the TMNT display.  Aside from thos in the case, there were 19 different turtles hidden throughout the museum for a scavenger hunt.  Jack found them all!

There are a lot of toys there!

 Wonder Woman!

They also had an area where kids (and adults) could try on costumes and play with some of the toys.

 And back to the turtles!

 We had a great time!

On the way back home we stopped at the Red Lobster in Norman for lunch like we used to do when Jack was little.  Then it was another two hours of driving!  This trip we went 436.4 miles in all, which brings this year's total to 990.8!
