That Boy From My English Class

Today is our fourteenth anniversary. I know you're thinking, "Fourteenth?? Surely someone as young as Jennifer can't have been married for fourteen years?!" Well, you're probably not thinking that since I really am almost that old, but humor me and play along. Jay and I have actually been married for just under eight years, but we have always celebrated our dating anniversary instead of our wedding one. So take a step back in time with me...(Cue the harp music, or, since we're starting in 1992, maybe a little "Life is a Highway" or something.)

I first met Jay in 11th grade English class. To be truthful, it was really chemistry class, but that was a bad experience and I ended up dropping that class after a semester. The first thing I remember him saying to me was, "That's quite a bruise." I was a graceful then as I am now. He had a girlfriend and he looked like this:

The next year he still had the girlfriend and he looked like this:

(That costume is still in my closet.)

By the end of our senior year, though, we had started dating and I ended up switching to his college after one semester.

Even though we've been together for fourteen years, I still sometimes think of him as "That Boy From My English Class," which never fails to amuse me, as in...

That guy I'm marrying is That Boy From My English Class.

That Boy From My English Class just bought me a car.

That Boy From My English Class just delivered my baby.

Holy cow! That Boy From My English Class is the father of my baby!

Sucker! That Boy From My English Class just gave me Power of Attorney and told me to buy a house!

I wish That Boy From My English Class could be here now.

Happy 14th to That Boy From My English Class. I love you.

"Beyond the Sea"
Somewhere beyond the sea

somewhere waiting for me
my lover stands on golden sands
and watches the ships that go sailin'

Somewhere beyond the sea
he's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
then straight to his arms
I'd go sailin'

It's far beyond the stars
it's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
my heart will lead me there soon

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'

I know beyond a doubt
my heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet (I know we'll meet) beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'

no more sailin'
so long sailin'
bye bye sailin'...
move on out captain

Awwww, this is so sweet! That boy from your english class should be thanking the gods you've put up with him for fourteen years. Holy cow, I can't believe how old we are ;). The star trek picture is too funny, you should put it on your facebook page ha ha. I love your blog & Jack is so adorable (I think I ended up going through almost every one of your entries). I'm in awe of all the stuff you think of to do - you're like beautiful ubermom, seriously.
Happy Mother's Day!
