Bloggy Birthday Giveaway!

A year ago today I started this blog in an attempt to get in the blogging habit before Jay deployed to Kuwait. Now he's been back almost six months and I'm still plugging away!

I have always enjoyed meeting authors and illustrators. It's just the kind of nerd I am. It started in college, when I was able to visit Mike Wimmer's studio and I still get a thrill out of it.

Meeting Avi (2005)

Me with Kate DiCamillo (2007)
I got to drive Chris Soentpiet around Omaha once and I also met Jane Yolen, but I don't have any pictures, so you'll just have to take my word on it.

And what's a birthday without a gift? I have a brand spankin' new signed (by Jan Brett, not me, haha) copy of Christmas Trolls, Jack's current favorite Jan Brett book, to give away to one lucky winner. To enter the drawing, just leave a comment on this post telling us about someone famous you have met, or if you haven't met anyone famous, tell us who you'd like to meet. (It doesn't have to be famous like the president famous, it can be anyone!) Please leave your comment by 7:00 pm (Central Time) on Tuesday, November 18. Good luck!

I share your joy of meeting author/illustrators. We have met Mike Wimmer but never been to his studio--COOL! There is a fascinating Oklahoma author, Molly Griffis, that my daughter has corresponded with and we have had lunch with her. Check out her trilogy that begins with The Rachel Resistance. She has a website. We would LOVE to win this special book--love Jan Brett.

Hmmmm...who have I met? I met Eric Carle and he signed a Very Hungry Caterpillar for us.

I've also met Ruth Gannett Stiles who wrote the My Father's Dragon series.

I could name a few more but those are the most notable authors. : )

Heather W (I never win anything so here's to hoping!)

No authors for me, but I have met Kirk Cameron twice, along with the entire cast of Growing Pains. And I have met Mel Gibson & John Cusak (sp?).

And we love Jan Brett and wish she would come this way to SoCal - maybe next year.

Very cool, Jen!

Jocelyn--OMG, you met John Cusack!!!?!! I love him. Well, we have diametrically opposing political and social views, but maybe he could just hang out and be witty, or just be quiet and I could look at him. LOL

I don't think we've met any authors--RI is home to the guy who wrote Polar Express, but we haven't made it to a book signing--I always hear about them after the fact. Sigh.

I never met him, but practically bumped into Robert Redford at his resort in Sundance, UT. I was walking down the hallway, looking at pictures on the wall and heard footsteps coming toward me, I turned to look and there he was.

This book would be a wonderful addition to our ever growing home library...

I haven't met any authors, but the most famous person I've met was Eric Burdon of The Animals. Had quite a nice conversation, too. He was playing at a street fair and I knew a guy that worked for the radio station that brought him to town, so I got to go back stage and talk to him while they took down the stage, etc. Pretty neat.

I have met Kelsey Grammer, aka Frazier! That was really cool. I was 18 and at a cheerleading competition in Dallas. We stayed at the same hotel. He was awesome. He sat and talked me and a few of my friends for a couple of hours until his... agent, maybe?... said it was time to go. He was quite intoxicated, but it was fun nonetheless!! LOL!! OH! I also met Keifer Sutherland at a club in OKC. He held my hand while he talked to me... I do believe I swooned! I have also met Lonestar, the Fonz, and Wally from Leave it to Beaver, but Kelsey Grammer is my favorite! :)

Hi Jen!! How fun of you to do this!

I would really love to meet Jane and Steve and spend an evening or day with them. ;-) If I could meet anyone "famous"- I would chose them.

I hope I win. We would love to have this book.
