It made me feel a bit old, though, because a) Bob Seger and I have the same dance moves and he's older than my parents and b) after picking up the kids and getting Alice back to sleep, it was 2:00, and both kids were up shortly after 7:00. That's enough to make anyone feel 74.
We went to the museum this morning so Mama could recover from the late night. Since the weather was so nice we tried out the garden scavenger hunt.
The kids were delighted to find one of the museum cats outside. At first it followed us around, but after Alice wouldn't stop trying to kiss it, it ran for the bushes.
We found the squirrel in a tree!
One of the art topics for this week's story is reflection, so we looked for pieces showing reflections. We also found one outside!
I like this bench, but I really don't think "everyday" is the correct word in this context. If I die and someone dedicates a bench to me with a grammar or diction mistake, I'm definitely haunting them. Anyway, what we learned today is that Mama is no good when she's had too little sleep and no caffeine. I read a blurb on facebook and thought they were having a jupiter jump at the yogurt place.
And they weren't. Turns out that's in a few days. Oops. Both kids found some coins on the sidewalk and there was an episode of Max and Ruby playing, though, so all was good.
Tonight we're turning in early!
I'd like to post a picture of a lovely Easter sunrise, but we didn't see the sun all day. Even if the sun had come out, it certainly wouldn't have been up yet when my children got out of bed.
Alice got an Angelina Ballerina doll (which she calls her bal-reen-reen), a drawing toy, a book, and a box of bandaids. She loves bandaids right now!
Jack got a new Lego sticker book, a small Lego set, some Model Magic, and a DVD.
Jack looked very handsome in his dress clothes!
Alice didn't want to have her picture taken.
I really wanted to get a good picture of her outfit--the $4 dress from a consignment sale and the butterfly sandals I found on sale at Target--but this was the best one I got. Trust me when I tell you it was cute!
Hunting for eggs--indoors, of course.
Jack is blurry in all of my egg hunt pictures. He was ready to hunt from the time he got out of bed and he was on the move!
Later the bigger kids hid more eggs for the younger ones. They told them to hide their eyes and they all went over and looked at the wall.
It was a long, rainy day full of driving, but we had a good time!
As I've said before, one of the best benefits of homeschooling is the ability to do what you want when you want. Monday I loaded up the kids for a little road trip. (This picture was taken while we were in line at the donut shop. Just as I was about to tell the kids to look at me, the man came back to the window with their food, so I snapped it.)
Our first stop was our old library. Jack had a blast challenging Ms. Kim to a game of chess.
The kids loved checking out the new games!
They spent a lot of time with the animals, too.
Alice was fascinated by all the puppets--and of course she went to storytime, too!
We spent the afternoon at the zoo, where Jack lucked out and got to ride in the swan boat with his friend and his dad. (We are rowing Make Way for Ducklings this week, so we thought it was cool that he got to ride a swan boat around a pond--just like in the book!)
The kids both thought cotton candy was fabulous!
Alice was very interested in all the animals. Any time we walked by a cage, or what she thought was a cage, she would try to get out of her stroller and say, "Ee! Ee!" ("See! See!" in Alice-speak.)
We went to see the amazing and ginormous new elephant exhibit. Here Jack is pointing at the stroller, which is starting to roll backwards down the very long ramp.
Alice was trying to explain that the elephants were BIG.
My children don't know how to do water half way. We always have to bring extra clothes to the zoo now.
I'm so glad we were able to take this day together--and before field trip season gets in full swing, too!
